We have a large and robust Division with a variety of clinical programs (service areas) to meet the needs of our diverse recipients for care.

The following information is provided to facilitate the process of your request for internship placement at LRMC.

DBH is made up of multidisciplinary treatment staff which includes psychiatrists, child psychiatrists, psychologists, child psychologists, neuropsychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, nurses and technicians. Our catchment area includes the local U.S. military community and other geographic locations in Europe, Africa and parts of Asia. We focus our treatment and care largely on evidenced based treatment approaches and outcomes. Our overall aim for internship training includes a mastery of clinical theory and practice, critical thinking, self reflection as well as an understanding of micro, mezzo and macro influences on our client systems.

Process

• All requested materials must meet the regular deadline date of 1 July for the next cohort beginning in September. The late cut off is 1 August for consideration.

• Materials will be reviewed by the Training Committee and determination of those accepted into internship will be notified.

• Special cases will be handled on an individual basis (e.g. deployment, PCS, need for completion of hours, etc.)

• All applicant packets will be reviewed by the Committee. Interviews may be recommended for further information as needed and arranged with the applicant on an individual basis.

• Candidates will be selected from the applicant pool into DBH available vacancies.

• Consideration is not acceptance.

• A Memorandum of Agreement must be complete between the academic institution and LRMC prior to the start of the internship.

• Base access authorization, any SOFA/visa requirements, housing concerns etc. are the responsibility of the applicant.

Internship Requirements at LRMC in DBH

– Eight to twelve month placement in DBH during the academic year Sept through May

– 20 hours per week minimal time commitment

– Predictable regular weekly shift/hours

– Operate within clinic hours of 7:30 a.m. -4:30 p.m.

• Each service chief is autonomous and participates in a joint internship based on his/her own clinic-specific information and needs.

Note: Interns are accepted with the understanding that all information is completed within the required timelines and that applicants will accept the assignments made by the LRMC Training Committee. Assignments are made on the basis of our understanding of the suitability of learning opportunities offered for each individual and available service area(s).
